What Motivations Do

Elements included in a character's Motivations serve as an overarching goal that naturally emerges throughout the player's interactions with the character.

Possible motivations could include the character's desire to accomplish a specific goal, their general life philosophy, their need to voice an opinion, or the aim of helping the user learn about something.

Writing a Motivation

It is important to think about what drives your character. Do they need to survive a zombie apocalypse? Do they want to sell the player a sword? Do they want to discover a long-lost treasure?

What you write here will impact the character’s responses, causing them to look for opportunities to inject these motivations into the conversation.

Your wording here can also determine how a character is impacted by their motivations. For example, the character could be “aggressively” trying to achieve their motivations, but they could also be "sneakily" or "timidly" trying to achieve them. Defining how they approach achieving their motivations can have a significant impact on how these motivations surface though their responses.

Character Limit

A character's Motivations can contain a maximum of 250 characters.
